Gamers are getting older by the year and it seems that the ESA agrees. According to research done by the Entertainment Software Association, the average age of US gamers is now 30 years old. In addition, 37 percent of gamers are over the age of 36.
The ESA’s report included other interesting facts as well. Nearly half of American homes now have a video game console. The study also showed that 40 percent of parents play video games with their kids at least one a week. Further more, 98 percent of parents say they find the ESRB rating system to be helpful.
People are starting to play games differently as well. Research shows that 15 percent of American gamers play online games (such as World of Warcraft), while 30 percent play social games (such as Farmville). The study also showed that 33 percent of gamers play games on their smart phones.
This may not sound that big of a deal, but it actually is a bit significant. The research shows that video games are becoming more apart of our culture. It also shows how people’s attitude’s towards video games are changing as well. Personally, I’m just glad that people aren’t thinking so negatively about video games any more.
